Orthopantomography
Orthopantomography, also known as panoramic radiography of the face, is an imaging examination that provides a broad view of the structures of the mouth, including the teeth, jaws, temporomandibular joints (TMJ) and surrounding bone structures.
Main features:
- Evaluate the position and development of teeth, including included teeth such as wisdom teeth.
- Assess the risk of dental caries, infections or periodontal disease.
- Examine apical lesions.
- Plan orthodontic treatments involving the use of dental appliances.
- Evaluate pathological conditions such as tumors or cysts in the maxillary and mandibular regions.
Orthopantomography is a quick and painless imaging test that uses equipment that rotates around the patient’s head to capture a panoramic image of the maxillofacial region.
Teleradiography
The teleradiography or lateral lateral radiograph provides a wide and detailed image of the craniofacial structures, including the facial bones, mandible, maxilla and the relationship between them, allowing a clear and precise view of the proportions and alignment of the bone structures.
Main features:
- Assessing the growth and development of facial structures and planning the use of orthodontic appliances.
- Carry out a cephalometric and proportionality analysis of the craniofacial region to identify occlusion problems or imbalances in bone growth.
- Diagnosis of malocclusions and problems related to dental malposition.
- Evaluate postural alterations and skeletal dysfunctions, such as mandibular deviation.
Teleradiography is an essential examination for interceptive and orthopedic treatments, allowing an assessment of craniofacial growth, especially in growing children and adolescents.
CBCT
CBCT, or cone beam computed tomography, is a three-dimensional imaging exam widely used in dentistry and implantology.
It is a variation on traditional computed tomography (CT), but uses a cone-shaped X-ray beam, which allows detailed 3D images to be captured of bone structures, teeth, soft tissues and the airways of the head and neck.
Main features:
- It produces high-precision 3D images, which allow an accurate three-dimensional visualization of structures, making it very useful for planning surgeries and treatments.
- Planning the placement of dental implants, allowing a detailed view of the available bone and the position of nerves and blood vessels.
- CBCT is used to assess tooth development, craniofacial growth and the planning of more complex orthodontic treatments, particularly in the presence of missing teeth.
- Diagnosis of lesions such as cysts, tumors, fractures or other anomalies affecting the bony structures of the mandible, maxilla and face. Evaluation of sinus pathology, allowing articulation with ENT (otorhinolaryngology)
- It allows a detailed study of the temporo-mandibular joints (TMJ), helping to diagnose dysfunctions.
Advantages:
- High precision: Provides detailed and accurate images, allowing for very specific diagnosis and planning.
- Low radiation dose: Compared to a conventional CT scan, CBCT uses a lower radiation dose, which makes it safer, especially for repeat scans.
- Fast and efficient: The examination is carried out in just a few seconds and the processing of the 3D images is also fast.
In short, CBCT is an essential tool for modern stomatology and dentistry, enabling safer, more predictable and personalized treatments.
