Periodontology

Periodontology is the branch of dentistry that deals with the study, assessment and treatment of the tooth’s supporting tissues, namely the gums, bone and periodontal ligament.

What causes periodontal disease?

Periodontal disease results from inflammation of the gums caused by accumulated plaque and tartar. Gum inflammation is related to a change in the normal colour of the gums from pink to red and bleeding, which can occur during brushing or even spontaneously.

Chronic inflammation of the gums leads to bone loss, leading to tooth mobility, and subsequently, to the loss of teeth.

It is therefore important to seek advice from your specialist doctor so that you can control periodontal disease and halt its progression.

Oral Hygiene

Oral hygiene is the branch of dentistry that deals with the removal of plaque and tartar, the removal of pigments and stains, dental polishing, as well as daily oral hygiene

Why oral hygiene is so important?

Oral hygiene aims at preventing teeth and gums pathologies and promoting good health.

The origin of the main diseases of the oral cavity (caries, gingivitis and periodontitis) is related to the accumulation of bacterial plaque and tartar in the oral cavity.

Removing plaque can be very challenging.

Incorrect or ineffective brushing techniques make it possible for a large part of the biofilm, invisible to the naked eye, to remain accumulated on the teeth, undetectable to patients when they look in the mirror. Consequently, if the biofilm is not properly identified and eliminated by a qualified professional, it will continue to cause damage and potentiate oral diseases.
