Oral Hygiene
Oral hygiene is the area of dentistry that deals with the removal of plaque and tartar, the removal of pigments and stains, dental polishing as well as instruction and motivation regarding daily oral hygiene care.
Do you know why oral hygiene is important?
The fundamental aim of oral hygiene is to prevent the appearance of pathologies of the teeth and gums and to promote good health.
The origin of the main diseases of the oral cavity (caries, gingivitis and periodontitis) is related to the accumulation of bacterial plaque and tartar in the oral cavity.
Removing plaque can be very challenging, mainly because it is extremely well adhered to the tooth surface.
Incorrect or ineffective brushing techniques make it possible for a large part of the biofilm, invisible to the naked eye, to remain accumulated on the teeth, undetectable to patients when they look in the mirror. Consequently, if the biofilm is not properly identified and eliminated by a qualified professional, it will continue to cause damage and potentiate the appearance of oral diseases.
