Oral Surgery
Oral surgery is one of the most important branches of dental medicine and its purpose is to diagnose and treat lesions and pathologies in the oral cavity.
Some examples of Oral Surgery treatments include the placement of dental implants and the extraction of teeth.
Minimally invasive surgery
In recent decades, medicine has evolved to minimize the discomfort related with medical treatments.
The use of appropriate anesthetic techniques, an atraumatic and minimally invasive surgical technique and effective therapeutic regimen allow for a high level of comfort during and after the surgical procedure.
Tooth extraction
The extraction (removal) of dental parts is the most common procedure in oral surgery.
This procedure can be simpler or more complex, but it is always carried out under local anesthesia.
At Clínica São Dente, all oral surgery procedures require detailed planning, in which the craniofacial structure, jaw anatomy, adjacent anatomical structures and dental morphology are analyzed.
During surgical planning, minimally invasive techniques are always preferred.
Placement of dental implants
The placement of dental implants allows for the permanent rehabilitation of areas where one or more dental pieces have been lost. Dental implants restore chewing function and a balanced smile to those who have lost one or more teeth. These treatments are very popular these days because they represent a convenient and very comfortable permanent solution for the patient.
Strict surgical planning is always carried out prior to dental implant surgery at Clínica São Dente. After planning and tailoring, an individualized surgical guide is drawn up, which is essential for the doctor to define the exact location for the dental implant. This makes the procedure simpler, more precise and faster. At the same time, the patient’s post-operative period will be as comfortable as possible.

Post-surgical care
Important: Please find below the recommendations for a more comfortable post-operative period.
Apply compression for 30 minutes to reduce bleeding. If you still notice bleeding when you remove the compress, put on a new compress and keep it on for another 30 minutes.
Apply ice for 30 minutes immediately after surgery. At home you should repeat the application of ice for periods of 30 minutes, taking care to let the skin rest for 50 minutes between each application. Applying ice helps to minimize local swelling and pain. Ideally you should do 8 applications interspersed in time on the day of surgery and the following days
Avoid at all costs spitting, chewing, inserting instruments into the wound site, lowering your head or making physical efforts in the first 48 hours after surgery. It is advisable to sleep with 2 pillows on the day of surgery so as not to increase the risk of bleeding.
Preferring only cold, soft foods for the first 4 days after surgery (e.g. ice cream, yogurt, jelly, puddings or cold baby food). After this period you can eat soft food at room temperature (e.g. mash, pie, spaghetti, crushed food, soups, etc). After a week, you will be able to start eating all kinds of food, avoiding only foods that could traumatize the area.
Avoid alcohol and tobacco consumption in the first two weeks after surgery as they hinder healing and increase the risk of infections and post-operative complications.
Resume your usual oral hygiene, brushing all your teeth and protecting the treated area.
Apply 0.2% chlorohexidine gel with a compress to the surgical wound and suture for a period of 7 days.
Follow the therapeutic regimen you have been given and do not interrupt the medication without your doctor’s supervision.
